It's taken 15 people three and a half years to develop, and there's only one in
the whole world currently, but amongst the affluent socialites in Las Vegas at least,
there's only one watch to own right now.
This is the Vintage 1945 Jackpot Tourbillon watch, made by esteemed Swiss watch
makers Girard-Perregaux, and costing a cool $650,000 (about €444,000). What's
so special about it? It contains a fully functioning slot machine and is entirely
mechanically operated.
At the top of the face are 3 spinning reels, and when you pull the arm at the side
(gold of course) each reel stops on one of 5 symbols giving 125 possible
combinations. Attention to detail is exceptional down to the symbols on the reels
which mimic those on the very first slot machine ever - the Liberty Bell.
With 501 moving parts, its a wonder of engineering
and with an 18-karat rose gold
finish, its understated looks are elegant rather than tacky.
In fact it's so complex, the second watch out of production will take another year.
To complete the package, the watch comes in a specially designed sleek black
carrying case which opens to reveal curtains and the watch under LED lights, with
cards and chips alongside. If ever a watch was to become a collectors piece, this
is it.
